the stories we tell ourselves about who we are make us who we are

Amber Lehning, PhD

Hello, and welcome! I am an independent scholar operating at the juncture of myth and the environment. My interdisciplinary research concentrates on the powerful influence of ancient and modern myths on human societies, via comparative mythology, religious studies, philosophy, literary source criticism, and ecocriticism. I am particularly interested in the mythic influence of modern speculative fiction and New Media storytelling.

My new book The Map of Wilderland: Ecocritical Reflections on Tolkien’s Myth of Wilderness is NOW AVAILABLE! Click below to order!

To receive updates on this and my other work, please join my email list using the Newsletter link in the menu above.

Are you interested in medieval British literature? Do you love Tolkien? What do you think about wilderness today? My book about all these things is now available!
